Background: Bushwick activist and small business owner, Monica Yi, was brutally and illegally evicted from her 169 Starr Street apartment by her landlord, Jousha Bell of Cardan Realty on at 9:30 am on Monday, October 30th. Monica, a rent-stabilized tenant, had struggled to get Joshua Bell to provide much-needed services and repairs since 2012 but he refused. Finally, in May 2017, Monica began to withhold her rent. Without properly serving Monica with the appropriate paperwork from Kings County Civil Court, Joshua Bell started eviction proceedings against her. Monica never received any court documents so was completely unaware of her court dates. Without ever appearing in front of a judge, Monica learned the eviction on October 30th, when Joshua Bell and two Kings County marshals violently forced their way into her apartment at 9:30 am and ordered her to leave. They taunted and videotaped her, as she scrambled to get a bag of clothes and her dog.
