Casa Salud Feast and Fundraiser

Join us on June 4th for a vegan feast of tamales and other early summer fare from our community as we raise funds to celebrate Casa Salud and to help defend it from the threat of displacement.

Casa Salud is a women of color centered space that offers healing and community building. We house an African Centered cooperative school, holistic health workshops, meeting space, and community meals. With neighboring children and families we have grown a community garden, started and maintained a composting system, taught our children about the cycles of the earth and plants, and learned to love vegetables by eating what we’ve grown from our container garden.

We provide free & low cost opportunities for Brooklyn/Flatbush community members to experience holistic health modalities, offering camaraderie, sisterhood, and self care for many working moms and women of color.

The dwelling is home to myself and several other families and individuals being faced with displacement from the Ditmas Park neighborhood. With many in our community being driven out, we see ownership of the house as integral to our health and viability.

A court hearing will soon take place to push the sale of the house to auction, where, in the light of massive gentrification it will most likely fetch an astronomical price if we cannot find another legal route. While we are exploring different paths towards creating a sustainable future for Casa Salud, all of them require a large capital investment. On June 4th, at 1pm, we invite you to a party and fundraiser at our home. Eat, learn, and celebrate with us at the height of springtime, while we work to make sure the seeds we are planting have the opportunity to provide for our families for years to come. Casa Salud is a welcoming space for folks of all ages.
