Victory! Crown Heights Tenants Win a New Front Door and a New Super

748 Saint Marks Ave Tenant Association in Crown Heights, recently won a new front door, a new superintendent and thwarted an attempt to potentially raise their rents by organizing a series of weekly emergency meetings in February and March . Even though their landlord, Eve Vasilantonakis, of Europi Management sent a representative to a tenant meeting to intimidate them, the tenants stood strong . They had specifically been dealing with a broken and unsafe front door to their building for close to two decades. Tenants began meeting with organizers from Equality for Flatbush in the summer of 2018, after participating in videos documenting the unsafe conditions in their building. In November 2018, the tenant association launched online petition campaign for repairs, consistent extermination, a new front door, along other demands. All this was won without going to court, proving the the power that tenants have when they come together to organize . Congratulations to 748 St Mark's tenants!
