Bushwick Tenants Bring Court Case against ICON Realty to Restore Essential Utility

Press Conference in front of the Building after 1st Court Hearing

WHEN: July 29, 2016 @ 1:30 PM

WHAT: Tenants of 36 Linden Street will hold a press conference to call out the extreme harassment they have allegedly endured at the hands of ICON realty and explain why they are taking their notorious landlord to court. Most notably: nearly half of the building has been without cooking gas since January.

WHO: 36 Linden St. Tenant Association, Council Member Reynoso’s office, Stand for Tenant Safety Coalition, Stabilizing NYC Coalition, ICON tenants from Brooklyn and Manhattan

WHERE: 36 Linden Street, Brooklyn, NY 11221

BACKGROUND: ICON Realty has recently gained publicity for its predatory equity practices. Many tenants have complained of harassment so severe it led to the displacement of low-income and rent regulated residents from their homes in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Two city-wide coalitions: Stabilizing NYC and Stand for Tenant Safety (STS) are targeting ICON for its rampant mistreatment of tenants. 36 Linden Street represents one of ICON’s most egregious buildings; it has racked up 22 Department of Buildings violations. Several community organizations, Council Member Reynoso’s office, Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A, and even the NYPD have had to become involved in order to resolve the most dangerous conditions.
