Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York

Born n Raised..Greed n Green are the New Virtues for Quality of life in my Boro BROOKLYN!!

I really do understand Economics. I understand that re-gentrification happens..what every 10-15 years. Usually in the large Cities across the Country. When I moved to Brooklyn with my family I was 1. At that time most Irish, Italian, Jewish and other non Black residents were moving out of Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, Fort Green etc. I reside in Bed-Stuy. I  moved back here from Crown Heights in 95. I rented a railroad apartment in Ft. Green/Clinton Hill in a Brownstone for $ 650.00. I paid that amount until I moved 5 years later. Saved up to buy my own home. God Bless those who have their own and can afford it. I noticed then in 95 prices were getting pricier yet I was not affected. Nor my friends, actually every one was pretty kool with the price of their rent.

I stayed in my home for 10 years. I sold my home reluctantly because I could no longer afford to sustain a comfortable living. But I had faith that I would find a nice place to live in my hood and resume life. WOW!!!!!! I never expected what WE are now calling BROOKLYN.. is now the most expensive place to live in the Country..surpassing L.A. Brooklyn the place where I grew up, went to School, played Cocoleavio, Tag, Skelly, hopscotch. Music in the parks. Neighborly policeman who knew my Mom and looked out for Us. It hurts my heart to see so many of Us being priced out and forced to leave Brooklyn because we can no longer afford to live here. And no one cares. Money and more money trumps quality of living for the elderly who have held our neighborhoods together. Greed is causing over developing. Traffic in BK is disgusting. The 38 bus line (dekalb both directions) my God..it takes literally a half an hour to get to where it took only 10 minutes. More and more buildings are being built to house more and more people to go where? Developers are aloud to buy AIR space. Blocking views of long time residents who paid for the view they no longer have. The average rent for a 1 bedroom that is the size of a closet is $2000.00. In Brooklyn!!

I'm sure some of you are saying...get over it, however it is really unjust unfair and immoral. My Aunt at 73 had to move out of The Clinton Hill Houses retired and thought she would be able to live comfortably at 74.

She couldn't afford the "Inside price" so she had to move. They are now Co-Oped. And it seems before this thing POPS because it will, things will get worse. Brooklyn has always been a melting pot of different Cultures, Nationalities, Religions has the most Churches and very residential. It has now become a place for the Rich..the New Manhattan. Leaving it's original residents behind because every one wants fat pockets and there is no Loyalty. Even those that helped to re-gentrify are now moving out because they can no longer afford to live here. Those who are not from Brooklyn and just want to be in this lovely Boro LOVE the prices..because they are not aware and can afford it. So they willingly pay $3000.00 for a 2 bedroom. Then you have home owners Brownstones in particular with no For Sale sign on their property bombarded by Greedy money hungry Investors with Brink envelopes in tow, ringing their bells asking if they want to sell. Preying on the elderly in hopes of them either dying or just tired or can't pay their taxes. Yeah you can call it Economics but I call it predatory slithering. Morally it is disgusting, I am aware that this too shall pass and when it POPS....alot will be affected. But those who will be affected most are the ones who were Born and raised in BK, who helped to keep our neighborhoods alive and thriving. Making those who Google BK excited to come. Of course now we have Bike lanes, Out door Cafe's, Paved Bedford ave. and so many many many many new Buildings. You can't find a vacant lot here in BK. However that is recent and not for those of Us who've been here, but for those who have recently moved here and are packing bags to move here as I type. The Have's and the Have nots  gap is widening. The Have nots see and are watching...you cant move em' all  down South and to Staten Island.

Resentment, anger, and dissension is caused by lack of empathy for a people who are being morally struck down. You cannot change or discover what has already been in existence. Those who don't care will Reap what they have sowed. My Prayer is that we will start taking more concern about our fellow man/woman.

BROOKLYN WILL ALWAYS BE MY BORO. I AM GOING NO WHERE. Bed-Stuy will ALWAYS be BEDFORD STUYVESANT...period dot.
